When we started Mackenzie Creamery, creating a sustainable, eco-friendly production facility was just as important to us as the quality and freshness of our artisan cheeses.
We are fortunate to live on a beautiful, 30-acre farm in Hiram, OH and have made it our commitment to be good stewards to the land as we create our artisan cheeses. In 2010 we were awarded the Clean Ohio Agricultural Easement (AEPP) Purchase Program, which permanently preserved the farm in perpetuity with an agricultural easement. We lease our fields to a local farmer who grows organic hay. No GMO, Round-Up Ready crops on this farm! When we converted the lower level of our barn into a licensed creamery, we wanted to build the facility to be as green as possible. We insulated the building using cellulose insulation made up of recycled newspapers and blue jeans. We even installed a geothermal unit to heat and cool the creamery!
In just four short months we converted our barn into an eco-friendly creamery.
